Challenge

How can we create an app that allows for seamless and motivated meditation?

Solution

Create an all-inclusive app containing lyrics and audio of Shiva Mantras

Shiva Mantras are chants recited by people to please the Hindu god Lord Shiva. It is believed that if a person recites these chants, they will be a better, stronger person while cleansing the body and soul of negative energy.

While the mantras are easily searchable on Youtube or similar platforms, they pose a few issues in terms of usability:

One may not find the same site/video as last time and has to remember to save them as a favorite/list, etc.
Different translations of Shiva Mantra are often in different places
Lyrics and audio may not be on the same platform
Access to the mantras depends on good network connectivity

These issues often lead to people less inclined to have consistent meditation.

How can we create an app that allows for seamless and motivated meditation?

Final Solution

Based on several rounds of testing, we finalized the app layout and branding

Users can access challenges, recently played mantras, mantras

Selection Pages

Users can access mantras through the mantras page as well as a favorites page

Sadhanas

Users can track consistency of meditation through various sadhanas

Mantra Screen

Users can access both lyrics and audio with a counter to track meditation progress though sadhanas and streaks

Colors

The color scheme and gradients reflect the look of sunsets/sunrise to provide a calming atmosphere to the app. The medium blue is a reference to Lord Siva, who is believed to be blue.

Each symbol reflects visuals associated with Lord Shiva including his snake, beaded necklace, and trident.

Background

In preperation of this app, research was conducted to determine best practices for the development of the app. Based on this, the target audience and key features were established.
